Like many people, I didn’t grow up in a cooking household. There was no grandmother to teach me dishes from the old country. My parents both worked so meals came from cans, boxed mixes, the freezer, or a pizza box. My mother infamously almost burned down the house trying to boil water…twice.
As an adult, my choices were learn to cook, starve, or go broke on take out. I started learning with chefs on TV. Then a job loss led me to culinary school & my own personal chef business. That led to food writing & teaching.
At home, I’m like you. I want dinners that are easy to make, use fewer ingredients, don’t take forever to get on the table, don’t use a ton of fancy or expensive equipment, and that taste delicious. Now, I’m sharing those recipes, along with my tips and tricks with you!
As a personal chef, I’ve been cooking in my clients’ homes for years. This has given me a unique perspective on the term “home cooking”.
Like with any job, friends and family are always asking for advice. I can’t tell you how many messages I’ve received that started with “I’m a bad cook, I made this recipe and it didn’t turn out. What did I do wrong?”
When I open the recipe, the problem is nearly always a poorly written recipe. The second biggest issue is a tie between an unwise substitution or leaving out an important ingredient.
So what makes Life in the Feast Lane different?
